you can look into it ... It sounds horrible to me.”
NEWS: DOJ says the IG cited “a potential violation of federal campaign finance law” re: Trump’s call.

But DOJ’s criminal division found that “there was no campaign finance violation and that no further action was warranted.”
Trump: “I will. have Mr. Giuliani give you a call and I am also going to have Attorney General Barr call and we will get to the bottom of it. I'm sure you will figure it out.”

DOJ says Trump never ended up asking Barr to contact Ukraine about this.
Is this a threat to revoke military aid?

Trump: “I wouldn't say that it's reciprocal necessarily because things are happening that are not good but the United States has been very very good to Ukraine.”

New: As expected, Rob Porter’s lawyer has informed Jerry Nadler that Porter will NOT show up to his House Judiciary testimony tomorrow, citing a direction from President Trump.
Nadler responds to these directives from Trump:

“If he were to prevail in this cover-up while the Judiciary Committee is considering whether to recommend articles of impeachment, he would upend the separation of powers as envisioned by our founders.”
WH has also directed Corey Lewandowski — who *is* expected to show up tomorrow — to not discuss his conversations with the president other than those detailed in the Mueller report.

NEWS: Nadler announces they’ve reached a deal with DOJ to obtain “key evidence” on from Mueller’s files on obstruction of justice.

But an aide tells me tomorrow’s CIVIL contempt vote on the House floor is still on.

Nadler notes that he’s decided to “hold the criminal contempt process in abeyance for now.”

But Barr was never going to be held in criminal contempt. That would be DOJ would have to charge the attorney general with a crime. Not happening.
These are the documents — or at least some of them — that the Judiciary Committee has secured from DOJ.

Woah. House Oversight interviewed Kris Kobach on Monday about the census, and in a new memo the committee’s Democrats say the White House “interfered directly and aggressively” to try to prevent Kobach from answering questions about his WH meetings.

Thread. I thought it might be interesting to compare the “whistleblower’s” complaint to the actual phone transcript of Trump’s call to the Ukrainian President.
He claims, “the President pressured Mr. Zelenskyy to, inter alia:

It’s also clear why the much of the Fox-GOP will excuse the behavior.
1/ In his riveting testimony last February before the House Committee on Oversight, Cohen explained how Trump pulls people in and gets them to lie and cheat for him.

As the editor in chief of ProPublica, I’m always telling reporters to read their work out loud. As an experiment, I tried that with today’s rough transcript of President Trump’s phone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The results are illuminating.
Trump begins by praising Zelenskyy for doing a “terrific job,’’ in winning his election. Zelenskyy replies with a volley of the sort of shameless flattery Trump is known to love.
“You are absolutely right Mr. President. We did win big and worked hard for this. We worked a lot but I would like to confess to you that I had an opportunity to learn from you. We used quite a few of your skills and knowledge and were able to use it as an example’’
