I don't think the argument "the favor was about CrowdStrike not the subsequent request about Biden" is all that exculpatory.

Second, on the merits, the CrowdStrike conspiracy theory is absurd.
That Trump seems under the mistaken belief that CrowdStrike is a Ukrainian company (it's not) or owned by a Ukrainian (it's not) or that there was a DNC server under Ukrainian control (there wasn't) is damning.

The theory being floated by Republicans right now is that Trump was asking about CrowdStrike—that is, an Election 2016 minor player that majorly figures in 2016 conspiracy theories—and that this is permissibly asking for help in an investigation, not Election 2020 interference.
But to even get to the claim that he was asking about Election 2016, you have to buy the conspiracy theory (refuted by our intelligence community) that CrowdStrike faked its analysis of the DNC hack to falsely implicate Wikileaks and Russia to blame Trump campaign officials.
If you haven't been following it, this is one of the conspiracy theories that Roger Stone has been floating that has been shot down by the courts.
