Proud to vote yes on @RepPerlmutter’s #SAFEBankingAct just now.

Conflict between state & federal law means legal cannabis businesses are forced to operate on a cash-only basis creating a serious public safety risk.
Now, we need to decriminalize and deschedule cannabis while providing reinvestment, restorative justice & expungement to persons & communities of color that continue to be adversely impacted by the War on Drugs.
That‘s why I am a strong supporter of the MORE Act. I look forward to voting for the MORE Act as soon as it progresses through the @HouseJudiciary Committee.

1/ Make no mistake: @realDonaldTrump is trying to please another authoritarian strongman instead of standing w/ our allies. His reckless twitter announcement undermines U.S safety, empowers the Islamic State, Russia & Assad. It will create more humanitarian chaos in the region.
2/ What did Trump and Turkish President Erdoğan discuss in their phone call before this announcement? Were any promises exchanged for this disastrous and unplanned withdrawal that paved the way for Turkey to move into Syria?
3/ This decision (made without consulting the Pentagon or State Dept.) will likely cause hundreds of thousands of civilians and internally displaced people living near the border to flee, in addition to disrupting ongoing humanitarian operations. This is a disaster in the making.

For over 50 years, America’s economic blockade against Cuba has been a complete failure. That's why I traveled to Cuba w/ @rosadelauro to build upon President Obama’s constructive dialogue between our countries and extend a hand of friendship to the Cuban people.
Not only does our embargo hurt the Cuban people, it hurts America, too. There are lifesaving medicines that have been developed and produced in Cuba that are not available here because of our policies. Our businesses want to trade w/ Cuba, but they can’t because of our sanctions.
During our trip, we met with Cuban entrepreneurs and biotechnology researchers, alongside with their American counterparts, to discuss opportunities for collaboration and investment.

1/ Another ridiculous lie from @realDonaldTrump.

From day one, @HouseDemocrats have been focused on delivering on our promises to the American people. Meanwhile, Mitch McConnell calls himself the “grim reaper” and refuses to even consider our bills.
2/ We have the receipts to back it up.
We passed #HR1, the For The People Act — the most ambitious set of ethics & election reforms in a generation. It gets big money out of politics, protects voting rights & strengthens ethics laws.
3/ We passed the #EqualityAct to ensure #LGBTQ Americans get the same legal protection as everyone else.

State cops get a warrant for guy's phone, and find child porn. But the warrant is invalid, so that's suppressed and the case dropped. FBI then gets a new warrant, based on results of the earlier, invalid search.

Fourth Am. issue?

7th Cir.: Sounds like good faith, so it's fine.
The court's finding of good faith rests in part on the assumption that the FBI didn't know about the earlier state prosecution and suppression ruling, which is a surprisingly credulous view of the relationship between state and federal law enforcement.

#BayCounty was hit by a Cat 4 Hurricane just 4 weeks ago,yet managed to count votes & submit timely results.

Yet over 41 hours after polls closed #Broward elections office is still counting votes?

Micromobility and ‘Micro-law’: A thread

One of the consequences of the Micromobility revolution will be the enactment (and enforcement) of laws relating to light vehicle operation.

The law always lags behind technology and a new legal infrastructure will need to be built.

Currently, electric bike/scooter law is underdeveloped. The laws that do exist are largely unknown to the public and only sporadically enforced by police.

Most state 'micro'-laws address little more than the technical requirements required for vehicles to be street legal.

2/
This is due largely to the fact that micro-vehicles have historically been used primarily by kids/teens in the U.S.

For example, a subsection of the Michigan Vehicle Code literally refers to ‘toy vehicles.’

The federal government’s marijuana policies are broken, outdated, and disregard the rights of states like MA & CO that have taken their own thoughtful approaches. @SenCoryGardner and I are introducing new legislation to protect them.
By outlawing marijuana, the federal government puts communities of color, small businesses, & public health & safety at risk. My new bill with @SenCoryGardner will let states, territories, & tribes decide for themselves how to regulate marijuana – without federal interference.
No one should go to jail for a joint. But more Americans are arrested for marijuana possession than all violent crimes combined. And black Americans are nearly 4x more likely to be arrested for it than whites. My new bill will help put an end to this two-tiered justice system.
