Yesterday @scotgov announced a target of 75% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030, and the Highlands have even more ambitious targets under discussion of net zero by 2025. Fantastic, but we need focus on #EnergyEfficiency as well as #renewables.

Continuing to build inefficient houses is crazy, not just environmentally but also in terms of the health, fuel poverty and comfort of the people living in those houses. This sounds v critical, but it’s exactly what @theCCCuk said here.

When you’re in a hole (and we’re in a massive hole wrt the climate crisis) the first thing you should do is stop digging. Setting a medium-term target for all new buildings to be #Passivhaus standard, and a pathway for how to get there, is where we should be going.

Other local authorities are doing this. I’m currently working on social housing to PH standard in D&G, Argyll and the borders. Here in the Highlands, with some of the toughest weather & highest fuel prices, it makes sense more than anywhere.

Local authorities around the world are legislating for or encouraging #Passivhaus. Recognising that it can radically improve wellbeing for occupants while slashing energy consumption.
