THREAD: Wow. Just: wow. What an incredible day this was!

Just a week after a record 4 million people joined the #ClimateStrike on Sep 20, millions more took to the streets today.

The #GlobalClimateStrike now ranks as one of the largest coordinated protests in human history.
It really feels like we’ve entered a new era.

Today we were bold, rebellious, beautiful, strong & funny.

We wove together visions of climate, gender, social, migrant, racial & economic justice.

We were fearlessly clear: we're going to fold the status quo into a better world.
Here's how some of it went down:

Italy made people-powered history - from huge cities like Rome & Milan, to small towns & villages, market squares filled with TONS of people.

Overall, more than 1,000,000 people - that's right one million - took to the streets for the #ClimateStrike in Italy!

Beautiful, heartwarming & inspiring scenes came from all over Scandinavia. Rain-soaked or in full sun, from Denmark to Finland, hundreds of thousands of us showed up for climate justice.

In Stockholm, Sweden, this was a very special day: it’s here that this movement started a little over a year ago with @GretaThunberg's lone protest. Today Greta was there in spirit - joined by 50,000+ people!

In Budapest, Hungary, the kids from #FridaysForFuture led the way - and were joined by a colourful mass of adults, striking together in solidarity.

In the Netherlands, over 35,000 people travelled to the Hague, coming from all over the country, to show a diverse and powerful call for climate justice.

In Paris, activists took direct action at the Louvre Museum, demanding the cultural institution break its ties with oil giant and climate criminal @Total.

In Switzerland, enormous crowds of young people led strikes across the country's major cities and towns.

Spain joined the rebellious party later in the day, but in style, and in strength.

Portugal was the last to start, but still managed to bring record-breaking crowds out to the streets.

Beyond the incredible scale, what was most powerful about today was the way various movements came together to say: our struggles and solutions are connected.

In Barcelona, activists joined the dots between fascism, borders and the climate crisis.

In The Hague, groups called out #climateracism and demanded a decolonised climate movement.

In Valencia, health workers paused their vital care work to stress that the climate crisis is a health emergency.

In Italy, dozens of unions encouraged their members to show their solidarity with young strikers. They urged workers to see the climate crisis as an opportunity to reclaim rights, and build a more just, equitable, and dignified economy for all.

Across Spain and Portugal, eco-feminist blocs drew links between environmental and gender-based violence, demanding feminist solutions and an economy of care.

"The new world will be ecological and feminist, or it won't be."

This week may be ending. But this new world is just beginning.

Together we will win.

Keep fighting for our future,.
Keep fighting for justice & equity.
Keep fighting for a safe environment.
Keep fighting for each other.
