For decades the Russians have compromised subjects and then, when the subject is no longer useful for them, burned them by leaking the compromising material. To think that the President very well may have been in this position for 2+ years is frightening.
The day after this Oval Office meeting, the Russians had dirt on Trump. They knew that his words would be profoundly damaging if released. There was a "cloud" over Trump, but it sure as hell wasn't the FBI.
Not to mention the fact that if Mueller didn't know about this, a lot of people probably lied to him. That's a crime.
Here's Mueller's section on the meeting. Not one hint of any conversation like the one that we learned of today. And none of it is redacted, meaning that Mueller truly was unable to unearth this detail. I suspect a lot of people are worried about lying to the FBI charge now.
