/ fed law: 52 USC §30121(a) It shall be unlawful for a foreign national, directly or indirectly, to make a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with an... election;
/ 52 USC §30121. Contributions and donations by foreign nationals: "It shall be unlawful for a person to solicit, accept, or receive a contribution or donation...from a foreign national."
/ From the Federal Election Commission webpage: "Receipts are anything of value (money, goods, services or property) received by a political committee."
/ When the question dealt with Trump's collusion/acceptance of Russian help in 2016, Republicans insisted that it didn't happen. Now, we have Trump telling us that, with respect to Ukraine, it DID happen but it's no big deal. Well, the law could not be more clear.
/ Trump violated the law and everyone in the White House and Justice Dept, and possibly the DNI office, who delayed in bringing the whistleblower info to Congress has engaged in conspiracy and obstruction of justice, ie, a "cover-up."
/ The NYTimes story that broke overnight has 2 prongs: first, that Trump told Lavrov, in the infamous 2017 meeting, that he didn't care about Russian interference iin the 2016 election. This has been obvious to close observers from the beginning. Look at the body language here.
/ And related to this, the NYTimes reports that advisers (McMaster among them) repeatedly warned Trump not to trust the Russians. That this fell on deaf ears is also no surprise to people who have been paying attention. Look at the body language. We don't need to see the words.
/ It is the second prong of the NYTimes story that is so devastating: dozens of people in the White House have hidden evidence of Trump wrongdoing in NatSec cubbyholes where it did not belong. For 2 years.This is classic obstruction of justice. They need to come clean. Today.
/ But be of good cheer, friends. The Dems have now become the party of "law and order."The Republican candidates for the Senate will squirm now, and more seats have come into play. Watch how the polls shift. It will be a slow drip, at first, but once televised hearings start.
end/... the ballgame is over.
