We've already crossed a rather big line for the Tories. We crossed it last week. The earliest general election is now in November.

Which means after an extension, which the Tories have to ask for by law.
As for the election dynamics, Boris Johnson will be going into it having failed to achieve the Brexit he's been boasting himself up.
That's why the polling can't be trusted. You need to wait until after that political event of the submission and extension. Then see how the Tories are polling.

Of the four options for Brexit:

1. May's deal
2. New deal
3. No deal
4. No Brexit

May's deal is gone. We are now on the last gasp of "new deal" which will be rejected tomorrow
Once Europe has rejected Johnson's . . . offer . . . we will finally come down to the last two options.
No deal or no Brexit.

Like I told you two years ago it would come down to this in the end.
Johnson can't tolerate no Brexit because he's postured himself up so much.
But the law is going to step in and force an extension which leads to a general election, a referendum and remain.

I told you when I first heard this daft idea of national unity, I told you it was just going to stir people up, and they were going to get angry when it didn't happen.
There was never any possibility of this, but you've got people emotionally worked up about it, you got them thinking it was realistic, and now they're getting angry because it hasn't happened.
It was never going to happen, but you convinced them it was.
Unity government. Fuck sake . . . Not only is it impractical, as you're finally beginning to see which is why you're getting angry, but it's also unnecessary.

Because it's a stupid idea. It only sounds like a sensible idea because you've got no idea what a sensible idea sounds like.
Alright. Alright. What do you want it for? That's easy.
You want it to ask for an extension to Article 50 before we get kicked out on October 31st.
And what's wrong with the government you've got?

At some point in the next month, and probably within the next fortnight, the problem of a Vote of No Confidence (VONC) is going to rear its head in UK politics

The problem for months has been: if you oust Johnson through a VONC, who could lead an alternative government?
So in @usherwood style, let's try to work this one through from a negotiation tactics perspective

First of all, what are the positions of the main protagonists?
LABOUR wants Corbyn to be the interim Prime Minister and does not want anyone else to be it. They *might* let the whole process fail as a result of this aim.

Beyond that Labour has said it wants a General Election, although now sounds more like it favours a second referendum.

A little thread about #GeneralElection (GE) dates

There is still the assumption that a GE is inevitable sooner rather than later in the UK

But when you look into the detail it's more complex than just ASAP is best
First the technicalities: Parliament is dissolved 25 working days before a General Election
parliament.uk/about/how/elec…

All my calculations are based on that - they are minimum time frames

The additional 14 days foreseen in the Fixed-term Parliaments Act are NOT included
I also assume the law will NOT be changed for this General Election. 25 days is already pretty tight to get everything done (not least overseas ballots), so I think it is fair to work with these deadlines.
