Today in pulp... let me introduce you to the original Suicide Squad!!

Who brings a microscope to a gun fight? Really! #TuesdayThoughts
The original Suicide Squad was created by legendary pulp writer Emile C. Tepperman. They debuted in the May 1939 edition of Ace G-Man Stories.
Emile C. Tepperman had already written for a number of pulp magazines, including Secret Agent X, Operator No 5 and The Spider before creating the Suicide Squad for Ace G-Man Stories.
The #SuicideSquad - Johnny Kerrigan, Stephen Klaw and Dan Murdoch - were three tough FBI agents sent to tackle the toughest crime bosses in America. They always came out shooting...
J Edgar Hoover was always keen to promote the idea of the FBI as crack law enforcers, and the pulps were happy to oblige by moving from 1920s gangster tales to 1930s G-Men exploits.
Once America entered WWII the Suicide Squad was retooled to fight Axis agents at home and abroad. This was "The FBI at war!"
Suicide Squad stories were fast paced and pretty well written. Dialogue was clipped, descriptions brief. There was always a man coming through a door holding a Tommy gun or tossing a grenade.
You can read one of Emile C. Tepperman's stories - "The Suicide Squad Reports For Death" - at Project Gutenberg: gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/06038… See what you think.
That's it for the 1940s Suicide Squad today. More pulp stories another time...
