Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C Circuit issued an opinion on the FCC’s repeal of #NetNeutrality that leaves the future of the free and open internet in question.



The decision is mixed, but it does three things. THREAD:
1: It allows states across the county to pass their own net neutrality laws. That’s a big win. We will undoubtedly see activists and organizers across the country push their states to enact strong net neutrality rules. I look forward to standing with them in this fight.
2: It calls the Trump FCC out for not considering how its repeal of net neutrality will affect public safety and low-income Americans.
3: It increases the urgency for Congress to pass the Save the Internet Act and make net neutrality the law of the land once and for all.
It is more imperative than ever that Congress enacts my Save the Internet Act to restore #NetNeutrality. I call on Leader McConnell to stop the obstruction and bring this legislation to a vote. The future of the internet as we know it depends on it.

Today’s ICE raids are designed for peak cruelty: tear families apart, stoke fear in immigrant communities & throw more people into already overcrowded facilities. Here’s Trump’s vicious manufactured cycle to criminalize immigrants & push an overcrowded system to a breaking point:
1) Refuse to use alternatives to detention programs to release from ICE facilities, create overcrowding
2) Refuse to release on recognizance from CBP facilities at the border, create overcrowding
3) Conduct raids and flood already crowded ICE facilities with more people
4) Continue to criminalize immigrants who pose no public safety threat

The conditions I saw today at the border are heartbreaking and enraging. Sick toddlers without beds to sleep on. Muddy kids without access to showers. Facilities without toothbrushes or toothpaste.
These border facilities are under-resourced, but the suffering inflicted isn’t accidental. It’s part of the Trump administration’s depraved deterrence agenda, to make conditions so miserable that migrants won’t make the journey in the first place.
The children and families in these facilities are suffering irreparable trauma. As the wealthiest nation on earth, we should not be packing people into what are essentially prison camps. We need to get these vulnerable people out of these camps NOW.

Rafa is 3. He lives in Boston, is learning to read, and loves going to the @MuseumOfScience. He’s also one of the 130 million Americans with a pre-existing condition who rely on the Affordable Care Act’s protections. But the Trump admin is trying to strip away those protections.
Rafa was born with chronic kidney disease and severe bladder issues and spent his first 5 weeks at @BostonChildrens. After a tough fight and a kidney donation from his father, Rafa’s condition is manageable. But he will always have a pre-existing condition.
Without the Affordable Care Act, insurers could use that fact to price gouge or outright deny Rafa the insurance he needs to continue living a healthy life and that gives his family some peace of mind.

Here at Gitmo's Camp Justice, the judge, Air Force Col. W. Shane Cohen, has opened today's 9/11 pretrial hearing. He notes that two of the five defendants are in court -- Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and his nephew Ammar al Baluchi.
As the judge takes attendance, chief prosecutor Brig. Gen. Mark Martins makes an announcement on this 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks: Relatives of 911 victims at Gitmo will be coming and going from the gallery behind the court, quietly, for private commemoration ceremonies.
The judge replies that whatever happens outside the court today has no 'bearing on any matter that will take place today.' He calls it 'inappropriate for me to take it in any further consideration.'
