Less than 24 hours ago volleys of tear gas was fired here and a whole cavalcade of riot police marched down this road. Today it's full of protesters again, many of them office workers in the financial district.

It's worth emphasising that this is an essentially impromptu protest; calls for this march only started circulating online last night. Hongkongers' ability to mobilise and at scale is incredible.

Hundreds read out a statement. We're workers of Central financial district, they said, & HK's success depends on a fair judiciary. They condemned police abuse of power. "We have wisdom & conscience, absolutely won't accept gov lies & police rule."

Class dismissed, ad hoc Wednesday afternoon lunchtime protest over. Back to their offices the protesters go.
