#BREAKING: Activists w Extinction Rebellion shut down intersection of 16th & K in Washington, DC by parking a sailboat in the street.

This is part of several disruptive #ClimateStrike actions working to #ShutDownDC this AM.

DC Police now trying to cut several protesters out of lock boxes attached to the Extinction Rebellion sailboat at 16th & K.

These photos we took earlier show some of the tools DC Police are currently using to try to cut #ShutDownDC #ClimateChange protesters out of lock boxes.

A tow truck has arrived to remove the Extinction Rebellion sailboat blockade.

However, police haven’t yet cut through any of the lockboxes attaching protesters to the boat’s undercarriage.

Police have removed two of the protesters locked down to th Extinction Rebellion sailboat blockade.

They are still working on a second lockdown group attached to the boat.

Many PDs send “cut teams” to train w FEMA to practice cutting ppl out of these devices.

Police appear to have just released Extinction Rebellion protesters after cutting them out of the lockboxes on the sailboat.

16th & K has been shut down for a while now here in northwest DC.

Police are still working to cut out the last pair of #ShutDownDC #ClimateChange protesters locked down to the Extinction Rebellion sailboat.

Presumably the boat will be towed away once the locked down protesters are removed.

#ShutDownDC #ClimateChange protest has mostly dispersed after ending at Farragut Square.

A small but lively group of young protesters has still been keeping this intersection (17th & K) closed to traffic by holding space.

Some reportedly plan to hold more actions later today.

Intersection of 17th and K was slowly opened back up to traffic a few minutes ago. The last blockaders of the morning left the intersection but hinted they might hit the streets again in coming hours.

#ShutDownDC organizers tell us they estimate 32 total arrests during protest blockade actions today.

As far as we know, all arrestees have already been processed and released.
