Johnson speech has started and he leads with a predictable attack on parliament news.sky.com/story/watch-sk…
This should be a the ideal set-up for Johnson. He's at his best with friendly faces around. And it is an improvement on the ghostly shell we've seen recently. But it's still not exactly taking the roof off.
"We will under no circumstances have checks at or near the border in Northern Ireland." This is false. Just another lie to add to the terrible mountain of them which he has constructed.
"I'm fed up of being told our country can;t do something when I passionately believe that it can." This kind of line seems tailor-made for applause at a Tory conference. Barely received it.
I don;t think it;s the writing. That's fine, as far as these things go. But the delivery just isn't really there.
That was really quite poor. Worse than expected.
Dull, low-energy, really quite boring.
Short though. So that's nice.
