PM now talking about the Fusion reactor at Culham - is indeed hottest place in solar system. Tho it is a mainly European Commission funded project called EUROfusion, reactor awarded to UK after Callaghan did a deal at an EU Summit

The Joint European Torus fusion reactor was won for UK at Culham site, as European Council decision in 1977. Callaghan persuaded Helmut Schmidt that British government eagerly wanted to host it to demonstrate strong commitment “to the common idea of Europe”, acc to German minutes
Here UK Cabinet minutes of the key meeting in Bonn - long argued that UK military help to free a hijacked German plane as well as French objections to siting it in Germany, also helped smooth discussions about the UK winning the reactor. Culham clearly a product of being in EEC..
