Current Brexit discussion is absurd from EU perspective, the fact that they didn't shot it down doesn't indicate approval - not even in principle. At best it means it sees it as a starting position in which UK has to offer much more movement to make it a deal breaker. /1
It doesn't even make sense from an inside perspective. If DUP gets de facto a veto every for years, you will see every for years that Stormont is de facto gone (or even never comes back) to force a referendum instead of assembly vote skewed towards DUP. /2
In short: The 'deal' - if it is to be taken seriously (and that's a big IF) - was designed by somebody who has no clue on EU's and EU27's positioning and utter ignorance towards NI politics. Long story in short: If you see backstop as a problem, you are part of the problem. 3/3
