Could record two general battles and 26 duels on Day One. Only 6 of those duels ended decisively. Pandava side suffered horribly in the hands of Bhishma. Uttara killed in the hands of Shalya. Saving grace being Abhimanyu countering Bhishma and winning over Brihadbala #Kurukshetra

Like Aristotle once argued, knowledge can be an end in itself and can provide joy in itself. Developed nations get that. Libraries are not wasted spaces. They exist to both delight and train minds. Museums, galleries and parks are not optional. People fight to preserve them.
When things break down in those countries, the default response is to repair them. Things work because they should work, not because there is always a financial reward. The people have embraced a value system that makes it so.

Let's face it...why spend so much money going to school if there is no financial reward at the end?
Never be ashamed to make educational decisions based on monetary reward. Be pragmatic.
Now let's get to the details...
DEFINITION: A Masters (or any PostGrad) program is designed to produce NEW KNOWLEDGE.
A Diploma program is designed to acquire ALREADY ESTABLISHED KNOWLEDGE in a specific field of endeavour.

Today, I found out that some young people I know (ages 15 and 16) are in 'school' Whatsapp groups with teachers.

I salute the dedication of teachers who go beyond, but I think this a very dangerous breach of privacy / work-play balance, and must be stopped.

Here's why: #Thread
1) You cannot join a Whatsapp group without revealing your phone number. This is an immediate risk for minors - the room for abuse is so large I'm stunned that schools allow this. Pedophilia, sexual predation, grooming - all possible when adults have kids' phone numbers.
2) There is also risk of harassment by other kids. I remember my friends in high school (esp girls) who kept phone numbers very private, because they didn't want to be constantly bombarded.

When a teacher makes you join, there's no opt out. Everyone gets your phone number.

I have been working on radicalism, populism and extremism for 15 years, having published my first (co-authored) article in 2003. Time to take stock and reflect on the field and its gender unbalance #Thread
When I first started doing research on radical right-wing populist parties, I didn’t notice there was a strong overrepresentation of men. The other PhD students of my supervisor @CasMudde were mostly female and I met plenty of talented women scholars at conferences.
Moreover, influential books on radical right-wing populism were published in 2005-2006 by Elisabeth Carter, Michelle Hale Williams @PippaNorris and @TerriGivens by university presses and Elisabeth Iversflaten was publishing groundbreaking work in highly ranked journals.
