@Gopanarya deha-ātman metaphor is apt. Of course, we should love, protect and nourish India, like one would it’s deha. But precisely because it is home and refuge of dharma, like deha of ātman.

If dharma goes, what is India worth? What is Pakistan was also India just a few decades back.

@Gopanarya On the other hand, there are countries beyond India where dharma is practiced.

So, patriotic nationalism is fine and understandable as long as it serves the purposes of dharma.

@Gopanarya It is not denying nationalism if one were to say that one’s commitment for dharma > for the nation-state of India.

The question was the relevance of nationalism in a more globalizing world, and I agree with Elst that the tree of dharma can be (should be) spread everywhere.
