Now about that quick and easy trade deal with the US - meet a 240-page report on trade barriers faced by US companies exporting to the UK, barriers which might take a while to negotiate usitc.gov/publications/3…
That's trade deals, not some quick and easy process where you just agree a few tariff reductions, but a really detailed examination of the entire structure of trade between countries, looking at individual barriers to trade - or at least it should be
If you want to compare to the UK consultation on US trade you can find that here - you'll find the US go to vastly more detail, which I am fairly sure as yet the UK government does not have (and business hasn't worked out) assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
The horrible and intricate detail of trade agreements is why none of us are actually experts in everything trade related, and why trade used to be an obscure discipline - all that work for a 0.1% GDP uplift! Also though why business needs to engage intensively.
On the detail of trade agreements you can also expect members of Congress in the US to lobby intensively for business in their area, and their vote for a deal may depend on it. So far UK MPs don't know what their role may be.
