Volker's statement, released today, reported that he at no time pressed for the investigation of Vice President Biden personally. That could be true. THREAD /1
What Volker left out of his opening statement was that he and his Trump administration colleagues actively pressed the Ukrainians to investigate Biden's SON. /2
Volker was pushing for an investigation of Biden's son that he had to have known was completely unwarranted. Volker knows Ukrainian politics -- Shokin, Lutsenko, etc -- well. He also knows the real facts about the alleged Ukraine interference in our US 2016 elections. /3
Volker is a smart guy. He can't believe in these fairytales, no matter how hard Giuliani was pushing them. /4

It seems like Volker was trying to do the right thing -- get an Oval meeting for Zelensky & unfreeze military assistance to Ukraine -- but decided (maybe reluctantly) to use the wrong, grossly inappropriate means. Trump does that to you. But Volker needs to own his mistake. /6
And Volker needs to apologize to the Bidens, both of them. /7
