think the trick to Pompeo’s reputational success til recent weeks is he was loyal & had Trump’s trust, but he also projected wink nod image
that, when needed, he picked his battles internally to steer past calamity and gross abuses of office. and that is what is now gone. 3/
he apparently did not act to steer Trump away from using Pompeo’s department to commit gross abuses of office, was fully aware, & 4/
and now defending practices he in past had meltdown denying were occurring as just fine. and so his reputation cratering
without the wink nod thing, that he was more than just another crank Trump loyalist, Pompeo is not working with much more than any House R
and just another crank House R Trump loyalist doesn’t work as the nation’s top diplomat.
it does not work as the leader of the department, it does not work as representing the United States abroad.
and please spare me everyone always knew he was just a crank House R. he had worked hard to adjust his image and self image
and tried to affect that he was now a statesman and a member of the executive branch, and onto much more important things.
but the headline now is: Pompeo’s fall
