‘We may still leave EU, but with so little to show for it that many will wonder why we even bothered. From now on we are heading for soft Brexit or no Brexit.’

It is genuinely extraordinary that our government could still, STILL be surprised the EU thinks Northern Ireland must be in the customs union indefinitely. It was literally written in the agreement the government signed up to 22 months ago.
The backstop was always, always, going to be forever. May compulsively lied about that and a lot of Tories fell for it. EU was always clear: backstop would last until UK could find unicorns to replace it. Call that ‘temporary’ if you want - but you’d have to be a brave gambler.

Even for someone as intensely zealous and weird and tone-deaf as Gove, this is offensive almost beyond words. Don’t you dare co-opt the genuine struggles of history to justify your frenzied orgy of nationalist bed-wetting.
The thing that hits you hardest about Brexit’s romantic nationalism is how deeply fucking embarrassing it is. These people don’t need a revolution, they need a hobby.

conclusions. Here is some of the key thinking in European capitals on

On Labour/second referendum: Corbyn seen in Europe as convinced
eurosceptic so EU is sceptical of his backing a second referendum. EU
has watched #Brexit turmoil long enough to see huge complications in
holding the vote and realise many leave voters have changed their
mind. /2
Of course EU would still rather UK stayed but Europe's leaders don't
see this as realistically on the cards right now. Most realistic,
considering turmoil in Westminster, says EU council President Tusk:
would be to extend article 50 leaving process. /3

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM
