Early #privacy new-years resolutions:
1/ Run my own VPN over VPS (incl. ad-blocker)
2/ Setup privacy-focused smartphone
3/ Overhaul self-hosted cloud storage
4/ Start using PGP email encryption
5/ Use own XMPP messageing server

1/ Prevent traffic snooping on public hotspots and from own ISP with a VPN. But trusing a VPN company just concentrates risk. With @AlgoVPN, I want to run my own VPN on a virtual server for all my devices. Bonus: it features ad-blocking as well. github.com/trailofbits/al…

2/ Smartphones are grabbing private data without shame. Google Android is bad, iOS not much better. I plan to try two options:
* /e/OS @e_mydata with self-hosted cloud, supporting many mobile phones
* the uncompromising @GrapheneOS, as next time I'll buy a supported phone

3/ My @Synology NAS is EOL after 8 years. Need to decide whether to buy a new one (love ease-of-use and features) or set up an open-source, on-premise cloud like NextCloud nextcloud.com

4/ I already host email and groupware on @Fastmail, paying with money instead of private data. Hosting is fine as email is an insecure medium anyway. But I finally want to start using PGP encryption, based on my verified keys, for selected communication.

5/ Existing instant messaging is not interoperable and there's no clear winner regarding anonymous usage for encrypted messaging. I'd like to use the open messaging standard Jabber/XMPP with E2E encryption and operate my own server for friends & family. xmpp.org

These goals should keep me busy for the next months in my scarse free time. Will post how it goes.

Primary focus ofc remains to increase #Bitcoin full node adoption. By building the open-source #BitBoxBase at @ShiftCryptoHQ and keeping my #RaspiBolt DIY guide up-to-date. 👨‍🚀👍
