It's 2019. 90 years since the #Aba Women's Riot. #Aba women are rioting again. Our mothers are on the street. Again.
This time around, it's not taxes. It's roads. Bad roads. Terrible roads. With ditches. Potholes. Puddles. Gulleys. Murky contraptions that our mothers have to dip their feet into. Every. Single. Day.
I just got off the phone with my mum. She doesn't look forward to work. Nwala street off Faulks Road, Aba is the devil's laboratory. My mum fears dipping her feet in dirty water. Mum has to go all the way round the adjoining street which is half as despicable
- by which I mean instead of swimming in a mud water pool of a road, you get to jump across shabby loam-filled cement bags that serve as boulders. Our #Aba roads are death traps. Our mothers have had enough.
As a secondary school student in Abayi, #Aba, walking in dirty water was the norm. I would be in a keke from Brass and as soon as we reach Faulks road, close to BCC, the road would be impassable..
I used to take off my white converse, pull off my white socks and dip my legs in dirty, bloodsucking water. Because that water was the only road available. Murky gulleys as roads. That was #Aba. Murky gulleys as roads. That is STILL Aba. I am livid.
Our mothers are on the streets again. History is scoffing at us again. #Aba roads are ripping at our mother's hearts. @Abiastategov @NG_AbiaState Our mothers have had enough. We have suffered enough. #FixAba
@Abiastategov @NG_AbiaState @hartng @DrZobo What do we say to our mothers this time around?
