LPC has been quietly working at stepping back from a paternalistic role overseeing water quality and waste management and engaging with FN to assume control and management with adequate funding.

Please refrain from spin. This isn’t offloading. This is the role every independent and sovereign nation does independently; Govern and manage water quality and waste management.

This is a novel, innovative way to address water quality. It’s never been attempted by any government. Every other government in Canadian history has maintained control. An assumption that FN could not adequately manage such technical responsibility.
PM Justin Trudeau has put sovereignty of developing water quality standards and meeting them in FN hands. The Canadian Government, as a treaty obligation, provides the funding for maintaining water quality. That’s it. Unless asked.
