Today was our first-ever official Indigenous Peoples Day in Wisconsin, because Tony Evers is our governor and he gets it and elections matter.

Today, on WI's first Indigenous Peoples Day, Ho-Chunk Supreme Court associate justice Tricia Zunker announced her candidacy for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District. She would become Wisconsin's first Native American Congresswoman—and America's 3rd.

For a moment, put aside the primary. Put aside impeachment. Think about Election Day: November 3, 2020. If it's close, if there's a single state that determines who wins, just about every analysis says it'll be Wisconsin.
What does "tipping-point" state mean? Take all the states where Trump is *less* popular than Wisconsin, and it’s not enough to win the Electoral College.

All the states where he’s *more* popular than Wisconsin: also not enough to win the Electoral College.

Polling right now just gives a snapshot of this moment, not what the election will look like in Nov 2020. Expect the election to be razors-edge close. But in dark times, this is lovely to see.

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day to me, who told a white woman on the corner of 48th and Lex who said, "I'm just sick of all this indigenous day this and indigenous day that" that I'm tried of Columbus Day.
Her first response was that she was "20% indigenous." Right. Anyway, I explained that Columbus landed in present-day Haiti, never even came to what's known as the United States, and enslaved six people the day he arrived. Her and her friends said they didn't know that.
What I didn't say to these women at this restaurant: You're a rich white adult in New York. You should know this. The resources are available for you to learn, at your library, online.
