Nobody ever expects Republicans to be the better party. Not even Republicans do. Reducing the two parties to "good guys" and "bad guys" is reductive and erases a lot of what needs fixing about the Democrats, but everyone in the halls of power know Republicans are the bad guys.
For all that the GOP depends on their unearned sense of moral superiority and for all their strategy depends on smearing the Democrats as being the corrupt and crooked ones... they know the Democrats can be goaded into following rules, which they freely ignore.
When was the last time anyone, anywhere in politics got anything by appealing to the better nature of a Republican politician? When has that worked?

They know they're the bad guys and they don't care.
Say I'm being reductive. I don't care. I already said it myself. It's reductive but there's something to it.

They know what side they're on. They know they have chosen themselves over party and party over country. Power over everything. Worldly gains over God.
They point to the presence or absence of flags as the measure of patriotism because to show any *real* love of country, they'd open themselves up to a loss of power. Just like they offer empty prayers and dead faith and say they represent the religious point of view.
They encourage among their rank and file a vision of the world in which their political rivals are supernaturally evil, just literal baby eating monsters, because in a contest of actual morality the Republican Party has nothing. Can offer no one anything.
They are a party without any ideas for improving the world, without any moral vision, without any plan for the future, with no goal except to grab power with both hands and hold onto it forever.

They cannot build, they can only destroy.
Any Republican voter left out there who still thinks their party stands for something, who still thinks their leaders have any interest in coming back from the brink, ask yourself why NO ONE, not in the media, not neutral or on any side ever expects the GOP to be the bigger ones.
No one asks them to compromise, asks them if they think breaking rules will hurt them, asks them if they care about alienating the middle by being too extreme.

Everybody, literally everybody who is in the know, has given up on the idea that the Republican Party can behave.
No one expects the Republican Party to do better. No one ask them to. No one thinks they can, or want to.

The party is... gone. It's not a political party any more. There's no ideology, there's no actual policy. It will cling to power until it loses it, and then die.
