Juncker is batting for Johnson, not Remainers. Fine. All that remains is for Corbyn to pull the plug on the government via an immediate vote of no confidence, then request the extension. EU has always said we can extend for a democratic event. Let’s have one.
Key point here is that if there is no vote on the bill on Saturday, the Benn Act kicks in and that extension must be sought. Juncker is not going to try to push us off the cliff when our politicians have just asked the people to clarify they don’t want to jump.
What we’re seeing now is EU’s raw politics. We’re used to seeing it inflicted on UK government. Now Remainers are experiencing it. But it doesn’t change basic fact: EU wants to pressure MPs into backing this deal on pain of no-deal, but they are not going to throw us off cliff.
