Hate to break it to Whitaker, but when the Founders discussed impeachment, they specifically discussed it as a remedy for abuse of power.
Debating the Constitution, George Mason asked if the president has "the power of granting pardons before indictment, or conviction, may he not stop inquiry and prevent detection?"

In other words, what if the president abuses a power we are granting to him?
James Madison responded, "If the President be connected, in any suspicious manner, with any Person, and there be grounds to believe he will shelter him, the House of Representatives can impeach him"

3/ In the roughly two months since we put out that report, our count of total conflicts has grown by more than two hundred, so we decided annual or biannual reports just won't cut it anymore.

With the tally growing every day, we need to give people more timely information.

Something to remember as we wade into this sacrosanct constitutional process: Congress has unchecked power to impeach. The House of Representatives
has 'sole' power of impeachment. Sole = belonging only to. Nixon v. Fitzgerald, a landmark case that established executive privilege & presidential immunity also ruled that impeachment & the press were inherent powers of the public to check presidential abuse of power.
The Constitution does not give the judicial or executive branch any jurisdiction to limit or obstruct the impeachment process. In fact, doing so would contravene the express mandate of the Constitution and all following judicial & legislative actions in this matter. So what's

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

1. I am so sick of hearing that the ONLY reason Trump should be impeached is if he conspired with a foreign power to steal the election. Let's remove that entire smokescreen and look at impeachment as a tool and why Trump needs to be impeached EVEN WITHOUT conspiracy allegations.
