Chile is run by an authoritarian neoliberal regime that has plunged the country into economic chaos, and is right now brutally cracking down on protests, but the US state department doesn't care so you won't see it demonized as the Greatest Evil On Earth
this is the modus operandi of right-wingers and alt-centrists, who represent and express ruling class ideology: war, genocide, economic devastation, literally making humanity extinct through environmental destruction—as long as capitalism is to blame it's totally fine and normal
but anything even remotely in conflict w/ capitalism, be it decommodified healthcare/education or nations that dare disagree w/ US state department & WTO prescriptions for them, they're the worst things to have ever existed. The feudal nobility thought and behaved in the same way
