Just when you thought it couldn't get worse: Private prison companies including @CoreCivic & @GEOGroup have decided to form an advocacy group designed to cover up the family separations, medical negligence & deaths we've all been a witness to.

Those commissioners who voted the right way have denied Vision Quest the ability to open a for-profit children’s detention center in the city.
Vision Quest has a history of abuse towards innocent young migrants and we are grateful to the commissioners for making the move.

Sergio's #DACA had expired, but he'd started the reapplication process & wasn't worried.

Then ICE agents ambushed him & took him behind an abandoned Walmart, stripping him of his things.

The reason? His tweets. ICE punished him for being an activist.

Sergio was grabbed and taken to a cell where he spent 43 days watching as the FBI, ICE, & USCIS investigated every aspect of his life.

They questioned his neighbors & combed through his social media presence, looking to build a criminal case against him.
This isn't the first time the federal gov. has targeted a #DACA activist.

All summer, Sergio & friends had been protesting in front of the San Antonio ICE office #OccupyICESATX

There are 1,600 people sleeping in tents in Matamoros, a city the State Dept. lists as the highest level of danger for frequent kidnappings, murders, sexual assaults etc.

Juana is one of them. She was sent back here w/her husband & 4 m/o baby, w/nothing but a bag of paperwork.
She tried to seek asylum in the US. CBP turned her away under Remain in Mexico, sending her back across the border as night fell—no aid, no instructions on how to survive, little idea why this was happening.

The family was shocked to be sent back. They hadn't prepared for this.
Her baby has a fever & no access to medical services. They had nowhere to sleep when they arrived in the tent encampment. It was only b/c volunteers & fellow migrants found them food & a tent that they've been able to survive.

The infrastructure isn't there to care for them.

Private prison companies have spent millions to turn our criminal and immigration policies into ones that prioritize making them rich instead of keeping us safe—with terrible consequences. Today I’m announcing my plan to end this private profiteering off of cruelty.
The private prison population has grown rapidly since 2000. And with Donald Trump in the White House, private prison companies saw an opportunity to make millions off of his cruel immigration policies. Today, 73% of detained immigrants are held in private detention facilities.
The companies running prisons and detention centers regularly sacrifice safety to boost their bottom line. Private contractors in both public and private centers regularly cut corners to maximize margins and come up with schemes to make millions off of incarcerated people.

Dorffer a grandit dans une famille difficile. Sa soeur meurt d'une overdose alors qu'il n'a que 12 ans, et on décide de le placer dans un foyer pour mineurs.
Là-bas, il viol un autre mineur du foyer en lui imposant une fellation. Et il vol aussi, parce qu'il a besoin d'argent.
En 2000, à l'âge de 15 ans, il est condamné pour ces faits à 6 ans de #prison. C'est le début de la descente aux enfers. Catégorisé comme "pointeur" [délinquant sexuel] il n'accepte pas ce statut, enchaîne les incidents et les transferts disciplinaires.
