My favorite part of the left is the part that acts holier than thou from their guest seat on the Tucker Carlson White Supremacy Hour.
The Left™️ needs to grapple with the fact that so many of its members are more interested in forming coalitions with white bigots than with the black base of the Democratic Party.
Any leftwing populism based solely on economics (which is how it’s conceived most of the time) is populism that’s ripe for civil rights getting not just ignored but seen as an obstacle. A diversion from what matters. That’s a recipe for turning privilege into aggressive bigotry.
Populism that doesn’t include civil rights at a fundamental level is populism whose definition of “the people” excludes most Americans. It exists within the structure of white male supremacy. It reinforces it. We need a populism that wants to dismantle it.
Imagine instead a populism that takes rich, white, straight, abled Christian male supremacy head on. The whole thing.

I realize that’s too long a phrase to rally around. But there’s a concise way to describe rich, white, straight, abled Christian male supremacy.

Minority rule.
Imagine a left wing populism that admits we’re already living in minority rule and always have been. And that it’s time for the real democracy we were promised. That’s a populism that doesn’t pit factions of the left against each other. We’ve got a common goal and a common enemy.
That vision of America requires progressives of every kind of privilege to recognize our privilege is a fundamental part of the problem. We need to admit America has warped our minds with minority rule propaganda.
A few of you have objected to me calling minority rule a common enemy. To be honest, I hesitated before using it. But minority rule is absolutely the enemy of democracy. It’s the enemy of everyone it makes a second class citizen. It’s my enemy too.
Going to wrap this up with two things I’ve written about minority rule. Sorry to my followers for bombarding you with this.
The United States treats most of us as second-class citizens. Minority rule propaganda tells us that’s ok – while it tells us it’s not happening.

We need a populism that’s explicitly, fundamentally opposed to the concept of second-class citizens.

I like to think in metaphors. This is one that helps me understand systemic bigotry and my own complicity in it. And I think it’s relevant to left-wing populism that emerges from the structure of white male supremacy.
