Yay, the React Conf talk videos are out! I'd like to take a moment to call out a few talks that I loved in particular.
It was great to see our manager @yuzhiz represent the React team’s work during her keynote. Some of this work is a bit challenging to explain but she did a great job.
@yuzhiz This talk by @frankyan describes a new CSS-in-JS solution (with static extraction to regular CSS) that we’re currently using on the new Facebook website. If you work on a similar project, you might find interesting ideas to steal!
@yuzhiz @frankyan In this talk, @catchingash describes optimizations her team has been working on to make the new website load faster. If you work on a bundler, you might get inspired by some of these ideas, as they go way beyond regular code-splitting techniques.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash This talk about web animations by @alex_holachek is one of the most polished and instructive talks I’ve ever seen. Turns out, I didn’t know anything about how animations work on mobile! So much immediately useful advice packed into it.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek I loved this talk by @TejasKumar_ about using TypeScript with REST APIs and Hooks. I was very tired in the morning but this talk literally woke me up with its positive energy and a fun sense of exploration.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek @TejasKumar_ It was humbling to see @tesseralis’s talk about her effort to translate the React documentation which spanned many communities around the globe. I teared up during this talk.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek @TejasKumar_ @tesseralis I know @en_JS was busy so I appreciate him taking the time to do this talk on data fetching with Relay and Suspense. We learned a lot by using them in production, and we hope other library authors can benefit from these lessons.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek @TejasKumar_ @tesseralis @en_JS It was really cool to see @sophiebits build a custom React renderer (like her own ReactDOM) in real time. I remember when we had no public API to do this at all, and now we kinda do! I hope this inspires more experimentation beyond the DOM.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek @TejasKumar_ @tesseralis @en_JS @sophiebits I loved the level of polish and clarity in @brian_d_vaughn’s talk about the DevTools he’s been building this year. He also talked about Fast Refresh which I worked on! He explained some tricky aspects very well.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek @TejasKumar_ @tesseralis @en_JS @sophiebits @brian_d_vaughn Finally, @gurlcode’s React Is Fiction talk got me teared up as well. It was perfectly executed — with beautiful illustrations, thoughtful message, and a fun misdirection. You’ll love it.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek @TejasKumar_ @tesseralis @en_JS @sophiebits @brian_d_vaughn @gurlcode Unfortunately I’ve missed the rest of the talks so I can’t write about them yet, but I’m hoping to catch up on them soon. 🙂 I’m sure they were amazing too.
@yuzhiz @frankyan @catchingash @alex_holachek @TejasKumar_ @tesseralis @en_JS @sophiebits @brian_d_vaughn @gurlcode Again, apologies to everyone who I didn’t manage to talk to. I should finish my work sooner next time so that I can watch more talks and talk to more people!
