I suspect that money managers are especially prickly about demanding obeisance precisely because it's not at all clear what they contribute that justifies their vast wealth. Like him or not, Jeff Bezos built something. What did Cooperman, or high finance in general, build? 3/
Aside, that is, from a financial system so fragile that it collapsed in 2008 and brought the whole world economy down with it ... 4/

So, can someone explain to me why Dems appear about to sign on to Trump's USMCA trade deal? It's basically no change from NAFTA as is, but Trump will claim it as a triumph. Why give him that? 1/
Don't say that Trump will kill NAFTA if he doesn't get it. That would be a body blow to US business and crash the market — which is the reason Trump huffed and puffed and then basically negotiated nothing 2/
So again, why are Dems doing this? The economics are basically nothing, and the politics are bad. Who's demanding this, and why should they care? 3/

Paul Volcker, R.I.P. I didn't agree with all his policies or policy ideas, and will write about that when I got the chance. But he was undeniably a very great man 1/ nytimes.com/2019/12/09/bus…
He was also — which is not the same thing — a very GOOD man, a pillar of integrity.

And while gruff, he wasn't at all arrogant. I knew him a bit personally, mainly through the Group of 30; he didn't put on airs, and had a good sense of humor about the world and himself 2/
Two anecdotes: a couple of years into the financial crisis, he joked over dinner that he was thinking, "Oh, to be 80 again!"

And when I once told him that he personally demonstrated the truth of too big to fail, he took it in good humor 3/

Aside from being disgustingly anti-Semitic, this is also empirically wrong. U.S. Jews are notably a group that does *not* vote its financial interests 1/
Jews are in fact a relatively high-income group: 44 percent have incomes over 100K, compared with 19 percent for the population at large 2/ pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016…

If you’ll indulge me, a story about Bart Starr and Hardee’s and how sometimes you find your path in unexpected places...
I was maybe 9 or 10 when my dad one day took my kid sister and I to a Hardee’s at the corner of Moorland and National in good old New Berlin. I had probably just taken my first bite of delicious roast beef sandwich when Bob McCalvy whispered, “That’s Bart Starr!”
I was clueless, but Bart Starr apparently was the man sitting alone a few booths over, and he was a big deal. My dad, who threw the baseball or football with my sister and I every day until the sun went down (sorry about the double rotator cuff surgeries, pop), was fired up.

My company was raided. It should have been a straightforward matter. But the #MetPolice & #LBRUT forgot to seize my computer & came back to do a 2nd raid. The search warrant didn't permit a second entry, however, #LBRUT entered unlawfully

Complaints were then made to my MP #VinceCable. He liaised with the #Metpolice & #LBRUT. And then weeks later, the search warrant was completely changed & was passed off as the search warrant executed on the day of the raids.
