I respect the inclination to try to pull a logical explanation for this that doesn't sound nuts, but the reality is that the president believes what he sees on his Fox News shows and since 2017 they have been telling him that Ukraine is evil and worked with Hillary to stop him.
Is it possible that nearly three years into Trump's tenure the White House doesn't have someone watching the Fox News shows he loves (F&F, Tucker, Carlson, Pirro) and providing summaries to senior staff so that they know what he's talking about?
