This work nicely complements the great work of
@LawleyLab's group (@_sam_forster_) and Liang Xiao's lab who also recently published isolate & genome collections of human gut bacteria:

Isolate collections provide the necessary material for mechanistic research and give access to strain-level genetic & functional variation, which often is substantial and ind-specific. I hope for all these libraries to advance microbiome science and human health!

Cross-sectional surveys have generated exciting hypotheses for how our bacteria influence our health and well-being. Next phase in #microbiome research requires that we develop a personalized model of the gut ecosystem and test hypotheses more directly with bacterial isolates.
Here, we unveil the @broadinstitute @OpenBiome Microbiome Library (BIO-ML) a resource of thousands of human gut bacterial isolates paired with whole genome sequences and longitudinal multi-omic data (broadinstitute.org/bio-ml).

Our peer-reviewed paper (w\ @MarcelloIenca & @EffyVayena) has just been published by @NatMachIntell. We analyzed 84 systematically retrieved AI principles/guidelines for “ethical AI”. 1/n

Only five of them are common to more than half of our sources: transparency, justice & fairness, non-maleficence, responsibility, and privacy. Solidarity, human dignity, and sustainability are significantly underrepresented. 2/n
@MarcelloIenca @EffyVayena @NatMachIntell Moreover, despite the apparent convergence around certain principles in numerical terms, our in-depth thematic analysis paints a much more complicated picture. We show substantive divergences among all 11 ethical principles in relation to four major factors. 3/n

1/ Here it is, the culmination of many hours of research - our published paper describing a genetic analysis of depression using data from over 2 million people.

2/ We firstly analysed DNA data from 800,000 people from @uk_biobank, @23andMeResearch and @PGCgenetics and identified 102 independent variants associated with #depression.
3/ In an independent replication dataset of 1.3 million people, all of the 102 depression variants had an effect in the same direction, 87 were significant after applying Bonferroni correction and 56 passed the threshold for genome-wide significance.

CO2 accumulates in the atmosphere, so that is the most important gas to stop emitting to limit warming. We have to take it out of the air if we want to reduce the amount in the atmosphere without waiting 1000s of years. 2/n
