1/ They say every great startup is based on a secret. If I was a startup, my secret would be that everything successful I’ve done has been about writing.

I started blogging so long ago I had to write perl scripts to stitch my text entries into HTML.

2/ I learned the Seasteading space in the early 2000s by writing an online book, then spent a decade at Google writing code (pressure for clarity and elegance).

Through blogging I was graced to attract a community of thoughtful & amazing people, many now lifelong friends.

3/ Through reader @JeffLonsdale I was introduced to @JTLonsdale, Jim O' Neill, and @peterthiel, and got funding to start @seasteading and work for years on my dream of creating a world where startup countries compete for citizens. Again - all through writing.

4/ In recent years, due to time pressure I’ve mainly written on Twitter (♥️ brutal efficiency). But I’ve really missed writing longer essays, and I’ve accumulated 35 pgs of notes & drafts on topics like charter cities, crypto, culture wars, mental health, monogamy & more.

5/ So I picked my new career partly to support a regular writing practice, and I am beyond thrilled to now be GETTING AFTER IT.

I’m going to start by upping my game.

6/ Because writing has always been crammed into the crannies of my life, I’ve never taken the time to consciously hone my craft & system, and my website & distribution are a decade out of date (at least). Fortunately, @david_perell & @fortelabs are here to help...

7/ I’m psyched to join their next _Writes of Passage_ class, during which I’ll roll out a new website & blog and start weekly essays (while my stealth project launches in the international press).
