GP Y'know, maybe were I a Millennial I'd stop bitching about getting a raw deal. You've never lived through a major, country-affecting war like the Greatest Generation, the Silent Generation, and a certain cohort of the Boomers.
GP Neither has my GenX (since it's been an all volunteer force during our time) but many of our parents or relatives served in Vietnam, Korea, and/or WW2. We remember their stories of their generations' hardship.
GP Focusing on what's wrong rather than simply getting on with it and making your own luck/fortune/way makes for a miserable existence.
GP And one reason among others the other generations are tooling on you is because your seemingly preferred solution to your economic hardship, socialism, has been so thoroughly discredited time and time again as to be laughable.
GP Millennials' argument seems to be: "We have had a difficult transition to adulthood because of the Great Recession, exorbitant college costs, and poor decisions we made. Everyone else should pay for our upkeep because we deserve it."
GP Two Millennial crusades caused my disillusionment with them generally:

1. Forgiveness of student loan debt.

2. Embrace of socialism.
GP You borrowed that money from *me* to finance your education. Pay me back or suffer the consequences. You knew when you borrowed the money you'd have to repay it and that it couldn't be discharged in bankruptcy. You simply chose poorly.
GP And don't give me this "everyone was doing it and we were pushed to go to college" crap. If you're looking down the barrel of $150,000 in debt for worthless degree and choose to borrow anyway, that's on you.
GP You could've gone to a state school or a community college for a couple years and transfer. You could've apprenticed a trade. You could've done anything other than go to college. You chose your path and now you want a mulligan.
GP Sorry, no sale. While I'm sympathetic to the argument that student loan debt should be at least partially dischargeable in bankruptcy, that's not what you're arguing. You want total forgiveness.
GP Newp. Doing so creates moral hazard. You (and everyone else) will expect any money borrowed from government not to be a loan but a grant. And we ain't rich enough to give everyone free crap that no one wants to pony up for.
GP Gonna start a new thread on Millennials' embrace of socialism.
