Another Tory doubles down on a scandal, making it much worse...

James Cleverly was empty-chaired by Kay Burley for failing to turn up to an interview this morning, in the most brilliant piece of political interviewing you will ever see.
James Cleverly then claimed he couldn't possibly have done the Sky interview because he was talking to Talk Radio at the time. (Screenshot because it will probably go away)
Except... his interview with Talk Radio didn't start until 20 minutes after the Sky slot, and he actually mentioned having been empty-chaired during the interview itself. So unless he was psychic, they can't have been simultaneous!

Of course, what happened was the different Leave factions found the plan too constrictive, because it stood in their way of being able to promise all things to all people. Dominic Cummings even lauded the lack of plans as a Leave strength in a blog post before the referendum.

All the candidates being caught out by outrageous social media comments and having to bow out of the election are embarrassing to their parties... But it will be much more embarrassing after 14 November when the candidate lists are locked and they can't withdraw any more.
So it's worth redoubling the effort to uncover this sort of thing once it's too late for them to be subbed out. That albatross can then be hung around their neck and that of their party for the remaining 4 weeks of the campaign.
It would not surprise me if the campaigns are sitting quietly on some of the more egregious examples, hoping and praying the media won't unearth them until after the 14 November deadline. They can then unleash the dirt to maximum effect.

Interview done and dusted. Really interesting topic this morning. I did some digging and found out that reportedly last year there were 18.5m reports of sexual abuse worldwide and 12m can be traced back to Facebook Messenger.
In 2018, Facebook made 16.8 million reports of child sexual exploitation and abuse content to the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, which the National Crime Agency estimates have led to more than 2,500 arrests bbc.co.uk/news/technolog…
So the concerns about Facebook's 'the future is private' campaign, using end-to-end encryption would stand in the way of this reporting process significant and potentially remove much of the responsibility from Facebook to report is valid in my opinion...

To understand why, I need to outline 2 important mechanisms that most people, politicians and commentators seem to ignore, dismiss or simply don't get. They have different and somewhat opposite consequences, but are both decisive in the current & foreseeable predicaments.

1st and foremost: the biggest constraint that applies to political decision-making comes from the past decisions & policies.
It is a massive constraint.
Cameron COULD NOT convincingly campaign for #Remain, because his own policies CREATED the discontent channelled by #Leave.
