There is an enormous difference between privacy and secrecy. We all have the right to some individual privacy. Our private lives can still fully function in the light. Secrecy, on the other hand, is where we hide in the dark. It’s where the duplicitous us thrives. Then burgeons.
Christ taught a very basic theology of secrecy: secrets manifest. It’s the way of God to whom the night shines like the day. Secrets don’t maintain. Darkness fertilizes them. The more they’re hidden, the more they multiply. Then they outgrow the darkness & spill into the light.
Please hear me out. You surely won’t get me throwing condemnation at you. I come from defeat.
But here is what I learned.

Jesus is not scandalized by our darkness. He already knows. Sees. Invite Him in. Let Him usher in light & clean out that shelter.

Go to someone mature in the faith and tell them what you’ve been hiding in all that secrecy before it eats you alive. And it will. It’s insatiable. The moment you tell it in the light, it starts to lose its power over you. Darkness flees from light. Night surrenders to the dawn.
As for you who keep covering someone else’s destructive secrets and duplicities so none of you lose jobs, dollars, power, position or reputation, their secret has become yours. You’re right in that basement with them. You’re not their friend. You’re their enemy.
