Brexit myths, busted...

We can't replace EU trade with trade with the rest of the world. Why?

The EU is near. The rest of the world is far. Look on any globe. Sea freight shipping times will kill just-in-time production and rot food. And geography can't change!
We can't get decent trade deals outside the EU. Why?

Even though we're the 6th largest economy, we're tiny compared to the sharks of the USA, the EU and China. They'll eat us for breakfast in negotiations. And that means we have to make bad compromises (chlorinated chicken etc.)
We can't fly stuff in from the rest of the world to make up for what we don't trade locally with the EU. Why?

In 2017, we transported 486,000,000 tons of freight by sea versus just 2,739,000 tons by air. That’s 177 times less than we move by sea. Impossible to bridge that gap!
We need the EU much more than we need them. Why?

They're a much larger market with much bigger economic clout. They will retain all their trade agreements after Brexit, and EU members will still have each other. Plenty of opportunities to make up what they lose by us leaving.
Brexit is all about economics. Why?

Because you can't make change if you can't pay for it. How can we start fixing the NHS or invest in Northern infrastructure, improve schools, tackle mental health, build more houses, or do a thousand other things if Brexit damages our economy?
It's impossible to just "Get Brexit Done". Why?

Because Brexit doesn't end the day we leave. Sure, we'll be "out" on paper. (Tick that to-do list box!) But we will still need to negotiate our future relationship with the EU afterwards. We will do so from a position of weakness.
"No deal" is not a credible threat. Why?

If we leave without a deal the Brexit damage starts immediately. We'd have to negotiate our future EU relationship at breakneck speed! We'd be super desperate to take any deal, and the EU knows it. Desperation = zero leverage!
Enjoyed this thread? I bust two dozen Brexit myths in my book (at a much less frantic pace) and get down and dirty with the reality of no deal and trade on WTO terms. I also list 270+ examples of Brexit damage. So why not give it a chance? Thanks!
