A strategy based upon stories is worthy of small teams playing paintball ... even then we draw maps in the dirt with lines, twigs and stones. If you do not have maps of your landscape then there is no strategy, there is just noise before eventual defeat ...
... the one saving grace is the competition. If it also operates strategy based upon little to zero understanding of the competitive landscape then you're fine. Fortunately for most of us, that is the case. Business is more blind cats fighting.
So having a story in this case is better than not. You can inspire people with tales of how "we're going a take a hill" ... what hill, where? ... doesn't matter. It's a hill, we've taken it!

With enough hills then eventually, you'll strike it lucky. Maybe.
