I notice that @Twitter is experimenting with how it presents threads, prioritizing showing other people's replies to a thread over the continuity of the thread itself, making it look like threads end sooner than they do

I knew the golden age of threading would end eventually
@Twitter wow so I've had 7 hours to get used to this and I really fucking hate it. it's completely broken my experience of twitter. I make threads so that I can revisit them. now I have to click dozens of times to expand my own replies on my own threads. seriously fuck this

This isn’t about a recent thing but I just got reminded about how sometimes depressed dudes argue with me in a strangely earnest and hopeful sort of way. It’s kiiiind of a “suicide by cop” energy, where you find a kind person to be annoying to until something gives
1. If the person gives up on you, ha. Kindness is bullshit! Nihilistic misanthropy wins again

2. If the person has no boundaries and persists with trying to help you, ha. Free attention and makeshift therapy from a sucker
People are complex and layered. I do believe that practically everyone has some part of them that wants genuine connection. But some people who are tied up in their issues will basically use their light as a sort of siren song bait to drag other people down with them

I think Scott Adams’ theory of success about being in the top 10-20% of multiple fields - applies really well to dating, too

Simplified eg: it’s hard to be the smartest or fittest person in a scene, but if you’re in top 20% in both domains, you stand out
My strategy was something like

- top 10% smart
- top 10% poetic/emotive
- top 20% funny/unneurotic
- top 25% kind
- top 40% fit

First girl I dated decided to wife me
I was also

- bottom 20% disciplined
- bottom 20% academically (amongst our peer group)
- bottom 30% fashionable (at the time)
- bottom 20% in romantic gestures

Etc etc

Would’ve been impossible to be top 50% in everything, and even then would not have gotten dates anyway

Han Purple is a synthetic pigment that was created by the Chinese over 2,500 years ago. However, it wasn’t able to be recreated by modern chemists until the early 1990s.
It is quite difficult to make. The pigment is a copper barium silicate and to get the elements to melt together, they have to be heated to about 850-1000 °C. It is said to be one of the most accurate shades of purple ever created.
