I'm as big an advocate for trains over cars as you'll ever meet.

But if people think they might get stabbed on the train, they won't ride the train, and they won't support building more trains.

There can't be good public transit if there's no safe public transit.
And no this isn't just an isolated case of violence on BART.

I should also mention that BART doesn't seem THAT bad to me (though definitely worse than the trains in NYC).

But a lot of women I know are scared to ride BART, and I respect their perceptions over my own.

Yes, free tuition is a giveaway to the upper middle class. But the real reason I don't like it is that I think there's almost no chance that it'll actually be matched 1-for-1 by public spending increases. Thus it'll starve universities of resources, which would be quite bad.
Defenders of free tuition - i.e. basically everyone I know - just sort of take an "assume a can opener" approach toward public funding and ignore the evidence of the last few decades, assuming all reluctance to spend will be swept away in a great wave of socialist confetti...
The reality is that our universities are practically the one functional institution we have left, and they're the most liberal institution we have, and they're built on the tuition dollars of the upper middle class. So we monkey with that at our peril.

1/OK, let us talk about robots and jobs, once again!

Andrew Yang is a good guy, and I like a number of his ideas (including UBI and VAT). But on the threat of automation, the math just doesn't check out. Here is why:

2/First piece of evidence that robots aren't currently taking human jobs overall: Employment levels are high right now. Prime-age employment rates are at or above their peaks in the mid-2000s and late-80s booms.
3/But what about wages??

1) Great start to a thought tangent. Here's the problem with THAT, and why DACA is in such a weird space legally.

Reparations would, in effect, involve the taxation and expenditure of money, depending on the form it would take. Congress controls the purse strings.
2) As such, reparations are likely to never actually happen, as there exists no possible Congress that would actually pass something like reparations, much less keep such a program funded. Any Democrats who actually passed it would be utterly demolished in the next elections.
3) DACA, on the other hand, while it SHOULD have gone through Congress, and it did cost money because of bureaucratic money pit syndrome, didn't DIRECTLY cost money. Napolitano basically jury-rigged deferred prosecution, an existing database, and work visa programs to make DACA.
