This is remarkable. Just watch the opening statements. No lies, no sloganeering. Just two valid positions being intelligently expressed in a way that anyone could understand.
Even the set is better. Although I'm not entirely sure what that phone is doing on the floor.
Must say I'm really quite depressed watching this. If someone looking at it in 1975 got a glimpse of what we saw last night it'd be like the plot of Idiocracy.

Haven't seen the unredacted documents Corbyn is referring to on US-UK trade talks, but what Corbyn's describing on drug patents would be perfectly likely to be in there and could prove damaging to Tories.
This is Labour's desperate attempt to turn the conversation onto the NHS, albeit with a tinge of Brexit and Trump. But he's doing it well - with the drama of unredacted documents, anchored down in a realistic assessment of US trade deal requirements.

Anyone but Corbyn would have rinsed Johnson in this election.
He's right there for the taking. Unliked, nine years into a Tory government, churning out obvious lies, in a period of near-dead growth, threatening to blow a hole in the economy. And the leader of the Labour party is on TV refusing to apologise for antisemitism.
Still think a hung parliament highly possible. Something like 40% chance. But fuck me. It should be 80%.

This is just unfathomable arrogance and lack of introspection.
If what he's saying is true and racism is a problem, then why wouldn't you apologise for the antisemitism found in your party and to those who no longer feel able to support it?
The only possible reason is that he doesn't think there was any and that those Jewish people who have spoken out about it are wrong not to support him.

One of the things that has started to make me HATE American journalism is refusal to fact check statements.

Bloomberg lies about the 70 top tax rate being like Venezuela and the report does not have an explanation as to why that's actually a flat out lie.
Part of a journalist's job is to actually do some fact checking and present facts - NOT statements without context. When someone states something that is falsifiable and you CAN falsify it, then it is your JOB as a journalist to do so. If not, you're shirking your responsibility.
Journalists are not scribes. Your job isn't to reproduce whatever someone wants to say. They have pamphlets for that. They can tweet it. They can post it on Facebook or just hand it out on the street. If journalism is dying, this is a major reason why. I get that shit for free.

Let's take an entire generation of Americans and teach them, at every opportunity, that the federal government is good and just. We'll also indoctrinate them with the idea that opposition to the good and just (as represented by D.C.) is evil, mainly because it's racist/sexist.
They'll be taught that every voice matters in a democracy, that their voices matter. The fact that America isn't a democracy is an inconvenient truth neutralized easily enough (because racist/sexist.) They'll be taught that their beliefs are the sole way to end the "unfairness"

Ok, I usually stay out of the conversation about language and academics, but I've heard this criticism entirely too many times in the last 2 weeks usually directed at myself and other POC-QT-QTPOC-Disabled ppl to remain quiet.
And this isn't a subtweet - it's entirely too pervasive and comes from every corner - so those of you itchy for a knock-down drag out need to take your blood in the waters fetish to the MMA.
In the last 2 weeks, mine and others' writing and speaking to *academic audiences* has been criticized for using words like "liminal" and "cisheteropatriarchy." We've been accused of shutting ppl out of conversations, making ppl feel stupid.
