Just as I expected, Kentucky Republicans are now plotting to strip Democratic Gov.-elect Andy Beshear of certain executive powers after he defeated GOP Gov. Matt Bevin this month. Republicans simply refuse to respect Dems' legitimacy to govern wdrb.com/in-depth/bill-…
This power grab follows what Republicans did in Michigan & Wisconsin in 2018 & North Carolina in 2016: Strip power from the incoming Democratic governor after the GOP lost control. This is an ominous sign for the fate of democracy in America
We should be fully prepared for Trump to reject a legitimate election loss in 2020 & refuse to leave office. He already refused beforehand to say he'd honor the 2016 result if he lost & then afterward claimed without a shred of evidence that voter fraud cost him the popular vote

This would be a massive violation of free & fair elections & the rule of law. There is zero evidence of any voter fraud & nearly every other Kentucky Republican on the ballot won a landslide while GOP Gov. Matt Bevin is currently losing by several thousand votes #KYgov
This. Kentucky Republicans don't get to just retcon the Libertarian's votes because they think a different electoral system would have given them a win. Changing the existing legal rules AFTER everyone has voted is banana republic territory

1. The founders believed that the synergy of free, informed individuals with three independent branches of government would make democracy thrive. They didn't consider that the synergy of a campaign, a foreign power and a complicit majority party could destroy democracy.
2. The knew a free press was integral to our success, but they couldn't have envisioned the mass spread of propaganda - spawned and disseminated by foreign entities - through social media. Nor could they anticipate a major news network becoming a propaganda arm of the WH.
3. Further, they didn't likely imagine that our country would become so powerful that the choices of a rogue administration could inflict significant and lasting damage on a global scale - impacting economies, alliances and stability. Yet, here we are.

1. When the actions of our government spark mass protest it is a sign that the democratic process is unwell - that the government is operating well-outside the mainstream. Historically, the reasons differ.
2. Usually, it is because the government is resisting change that is wanted by the majority of the country - as with the Suffrage and Civil Rights movements. It can also be due to a disagreement of the majority with policy - as with the Vietnam War.
3. The mass protests witnessed since 2016 are a bit different. We have seen a majority party not just resisting progress, but wishing to dial it back - fully aware it is against the wishes of the majority of the population.
