We’ve already forgotten Zac Goldsmith’s nakedly Islamophobic campaign. It included an op-ed which painted Sadiq Khan as a friend of terrorists and was illustrated by the 7/7 bus. Boris Johnson joined the campaign wholeheartedly and wrote that Khan is ‘pandering to extremists’.
And yes, as a Jewish person I was also offended by the coded antisemitism the Tories and their media allies used to attack Ed Miliband. Not just the bacon sandwich, by the way. More the constant references to ‘north London’ and the fact he was going to ‘stab Britain in the back’.
Anyone remember when the Mail led an entire campaign alleging that Ed Miliband‘s late dad, a war hero and refugee from the Nazis, ‘hated Britain’? These are the people who claim to be friends and defenders of the Jews?
Let it never be said the Tories don’t care about racism. They literally depend on it.
