I am not opposed to free public university and debt-free college education, but let's be honest, prioritizing it over universal pre-K and equitable K-12 public education will exacerbate inequality and the people proposing it know it.
But what is making racial disparities worse if it means you get a few more college-age votes? So, some candidates prioritize vote-getting in choosing which policies to promote.
Addressing inequality and systemic racism requires more foundational efforts such as ensuring schools with mostly Black & Latino schools are as well-funded as schools that are majority white so that students of color can compete for college admission on a more even playing field
