Disappointed there are still hiring teams who won’t even talk to a candidate who doesn’t have an up-to-date portfolio.

Several excellent designers I know were unexpectedly laid off recently. They don’t have portfolios ready.

These teams will miss the chance to hire them.
Requiring a portfolio for an interview is a great way to push highly-qualified candidates away.

These folks can show their work, they just don’t have it packaged in a way to supply it when applying.

It’s a *huge* hiring mistake to refuse to talk with them.

“Quant tells us what. Qual tells us why.”

This oversimplification regularly gets teams into trouble.

It suggests that quant and qual are simple, single dimensional measurements.

And it suggests they’re somehow to be considered separately.

Neither suggestion is correct.
Qualitative data comes in all shapes and sizes, as does quantitative data.

For qual data, we have user's problems, their needs, their journeys, their outcomes.

For quant, we have success rates, problem rates, attitudes, costs.
We mix and match. More importantly, we combine them to tell a story the informs the decisions we have before us.

The richer the data, the better the story.

And the better our decisions will be.

A/B testing is an effective approach to use science to design and deliver deeply-frustrating user experiences.
A/B testing without upfront research is just random monkeys testing random designs to see which of those designs do “best” against random criteria.

If drug testing was actually implemented like most A/B tests, you’d give 2 drugs to 2 groups of people and pick the “winner” by whichever group had fewer deaths.

The Great Awakening has grown substantially. Over the past 2 years, thousands in QAnon have taken crumbs dropped by Q and answered the call to investigate, uncover and share. You now have at your fingertips - those collections of evidence and research.
2. For 2 years, we volunteered our time, effort and sanity. We're mostly just ordinary citizens...moms, dads, grandparents, kids, teachers, students, cops, doctors, businessmen and women, little league coaches, veterans, hippies, Republicans, Democrats and everything in between.
3. We knew the future of our nation and the wellbeing of mankind was at stake. From very old crimes to the fresh and recent we dug, exposed, assembled and produced masses of knowledge that the average citizen does not even know exists. It has taken its toll but we're soldiers.

Differentiating "users want this" from "users might want this" is a vital product function.

Often, PMs mess this up because they turn to "user proxies" (client-facing colleagues: CS, Sales) rather than #UX researchers.

The proxies have a lot of experience with customers, but don't do the same job a researcher does. They don't construct personas, use cases, etc. They rarely document the things that product might need to know. All they can say is "yeah, clients do all kinds of stuff."

So the product spec ends up trying to cover "all kinds of stuff." PMs drive developers and designers crazy with edge cases. Architectures and scenarios spin out of control.

Involving client-facing colleagues is a great idea, but it can't be where your research *ends.*

They're your boots, your backpack, and your bottle of water. They aid you on your journey, but you're still the one who has to do the walking.

And it can be a lonely road. So find a community to share your troubles with. Lots of people have walked the road before you, and many will be happy to guide you.

Many #writers wander into the craft with an idealistic mindset. I know I did. I thought it would be easy.

It's not easy. It takes hard work and and lots of failure. It takes being knocked down and getting back up. It takes time.

But think about it. If it were quick and easy, what would be the point?

The value lies in the challenge.

2/ Unless the ENTIRE Presidential Transition Team AND Trump lied to Mike Pence about Flynn's activities from December 29, 2016 to February 16, 2017—a period of 50 days—Pence lied to CBS.

If he repeats that lie to Mueller, he'll face a federal felony for Making False Statements.
3/ And if Pence lies to Mueller and faces a federal felony for Making False Statements, he WILL be indicted ASAP. There will be no delay, no impeachment proceedings, no constitutional debates.

All guidance from DOJ from '73 onward would give Mueller the ability to charge Pence.
