No matter the level of provocation one thing is clear: the slaughter of innocent and defenceless civilians, the burning of peoples homes, the raping of women and children, the pillaging of their shops and offices & the brutalisation of their community is not the way forward..1/2
..What the Police did in Oripite is a crime against humanity & a war crime.Even in war there are rules of engagement. You do not target civilians in war or in peace & if you do you automatically become a candidate for the ICC at the Hague which has no statute of limitations..2/3
..One day you will surely pay for your murderous crimes & homicidal disposition both in this world & in the world to come.I have always known that to be a southerner and particularly an Igbo is regarded as a crime in Nigeria but what was done in Oripite was beyond the pale..3/4
..I was in that community & with those people the day before the attack. I worshipped in their Church and visited their homes. I mourned and wept with them as they buried their dead and I held the hands of the widow of the Pastor that died and her 6 beautiful young children..4/5
..Yet the next day their world was further shattered when they were attacked by the police. Now everything has been burnt to the ground and people have been killed. The community has been traumatised and brutalised and turned into a desolate land where nothing lives...5/6
..This is evil and it proves that we are being ruled by savages and animals who have no fear of God and no regard for the sanctity and sacredness of human life.
