Workshop begins on "Backing #Women and #Girls to Lead in #SustainableAgriculture" #ClimateWeekNYC

There were people, particularly women and girls, on this land for 1000s of years. Some are still here, and we thank them for the caring of the land that they have done.

We are glad to have participants from @CAREGlobal, @nature_org, @girlscouts, US State Dept office of Global Food Security, and so many from around the world working on #UNSDGs

@CAREGlobal @nature_org @girlscouts @ProjectDrawdown When women are in positions of leadership, with power to make decisions, the health & wellbeing of everyone in their communities goes up.

@CAREGlobal @nature_org @girlscouts @ProjectDrawdown So let's think about the oppressions here, systemic and pervasive, built into laws and culture throughout the world.

They have an emotional & physical cost, especially on young women as they grow up.

But not permanent, if we are given the chance to heal, to talk and listen

Climate crisis is present in the lives of Iranians right now. Catastrophic droughts, extreme heat, floods affecting food security. Land is no longer producing as well.

@CAREGlobal @nature_org @girlscouts @ProjectDrawdown In village after village, women & girls having to abandon the land their families have farmed for centuries. Migration leads to decreased schooling, forced into prostitution and underpaid factory work.

@CAREGlobal @nature_org @girlscouts @ProjectDrawdown Now I'm a policymaker. I'm pulled to disconnect from my feelings. And confronting male domination daily as men dismiss my views.

I need a support group and safe place to share these difficult feelings and get free from the hurts.

@CAREGlobal @nature_org @girlscouts @ProjectDrawdown Another story. It's odd how women are being blamed somehow for the climate crisis -- for instance, reproductive choices in response to climate change.

Sexism is so dominant in conversations, we can fall into destructive myths, find it hard to trust our thinking

@CAREGlobal @nature_org @girlscouts @ProjectDrawdown I work with women and girls as a counselor. I do a lot of listening about how much sexism affects them, see how much they need models of strong women who believe in women and girls.
